Description
While the 9l water fire extinguisher is suitable for industrial use, it can also be used in certain home and office environments. For instance, if there are areas in residential or commercial buildings where Class A materials are prevalent, such as storage rooms, workshops, or manufacturing plants, the 9l water fire extinguisher can be a valuable asset.
It is worth noting that the 9l water fire extinguisher is not suitable for fires involving flammable liquids (Class B fires) or electrical fires (Class C fires). Attempting to use a water extinguisher on these types of fires can be dangerous and may exacerbate the situation. Therefore, it is important to have other appropriate fire extinguishers available to handle different fire classes.
Remember to always assess the appropriate fire class and have the correct fire extinguishers available for different fire types to ensure utmost safety.
9lt Water Fire Extinguisher Servicing Tips
- When commencing servicing ensure the unit is not under pressure, regardless of the gauge reading. Partially release the pressure relief valve. If a hissing sound is heard release pressure before working on the unit.
- It is dangerous to ‘break/unscrew’ the valve, as a valve thread release may not be present.
- When filling a foam extinguisher premix the foam and water before gently pouring into the unit.
- Using a light film of grease on the cylinder neck and valve neck ‘O’ ring prevents leakage and preserves the ‘O’ ring.
- When refitting a valve to a cylinder always replace the valve neck ‘O’ ring and ensure aluminum valve threads are greased.
- Use a light solvent to clean all parts of the valve. Do not grease valve stem ‘O’ ring.
All Fire Extinguishers manufactured prior to the year 2000 shall be pressure tested at 5 year intervals, until they have been tested by an approved test station (refer to SANS 10019), thereafter the intervals will be 10 years.
