How often should fire equipment be serviced?

Fire equipment should be serviced every 12 months (yearly) by a registered company. Products are serviced by a BSI or SABS approved Company and SAQCC registered technician – the technicians registration number should be indicated on the service label. (you can check the service technician or companies on the following website: www.saqccfire.co.za).

What you should consider when selecting fire equipment?

All equipment being installed or serviced should carry the BSI or SABS markings as it relates to SANS accreditation.

What are the pressure test intervals for fire extinguishers?

All fire extinguishers require pressure testing by law. Foam, water and powder extinguishers require pressure testing every 5 years. CO2 extinguishers need to be pressure tested within the first 5 years and then require pressure testing every 10 years.

How often does my sprinkler system need to be serviced?

Your sprinkler systems need to be inspected on a monthly basis by a competent person within your organisation. The pumps for any sprinkler system need to be serviced every 12 months (yearly) basis by a registered and approved competent person. The valves need to be overhauled every 3 years by a registered and approved competent person.

How often does my detection and suppression system need to be serviced?

Your fire systems need to be inspected on a monthly basis by a competent person within your organisation. It is recommended that fire systems are serviced every 3 months (quarterly) by a registered and approved competent person.

How often does my ventilation system need to be serviced?

Your ventilation system needs to be inspected on a monthly basis by a competent person within your organisation. Fusible link vents need to be serviced every 12 month (yearly). Electromechanical vents need to be serviced every 3 months (quarterly).
